Playwrights from the Inside is part of the evolving mission of Still Point’s to champion the marginalized and in particular recognize the breadth of work that is created through unique writing and performing arts programs within the carceral system. Still Point Collective Theatre brings awareness to a variety of social issues and strives to inspire marginalized people with a platform to express their perspectives from the very personal to the most human struggle. We believe this transformational playwright series will bring a new compassion and understanding to the incarcerated. The Playwright Series invites audiences to critique a new play every other month. The audience’s written critiques will provide essential feedback to the playwrights to further develop their talents and bolster their skills among their peers.
 

In March of 2022, the first of several scripts were received from the Theatrical arts program at Dixon Correctional Center in Chicago. They were original pieces, created in their workshops in prison that were surprising by their candor and depth of characters. Simply, they were moving. The plays, and moreover, the playwrights deserved an audience to their social justice issues. They could spark incredible discussions and inspire the weary. The playwright series naturally fell in line
with our mission to champion the marginalized and inspire hope. The Reading Series Playwrights from the Inside was born…our first of the series to launch November 4, 2022.  

 

The Playwright Series invites audiences to critique a new play every other month. The audience’s written critiques will provide essential feedback to the playwrights to further develop their talents and bolster their skills among their peers, moreover, bring attention to these creative works.
