The Madison Street Theatre is pleased to announce the introduction of Still Point Theatre Collective to our audiences in Oak Park and surrounding suburbs as part of our mission to introduce innovative theater companies to Oak Park. The Still Point Theatre Collective is a 501(c) 3 that works with formerly incarcerated woman to teach them important life skills through theater. MST is donating space for the production of Sisters Rising in the 65 seat Studio theater space at 1010 W. Madison.

The women of Sisters Rising are living examples of resilience and rehabilitation as they strive to break the downward cycles of homelessness, poverty, violence and incarceration. Sisters Rising participants meet once a week for 2-hour workshops that are focused on developing performance and writing skills. After a few weeks of workshops, the women pool their written output which is then edited into a script consisting of performance poetry, character-driven scenes, and monologues based on the issues directly related to their incarceration. This eclectic script is then blocked, memorized, and rehearsed during the final weeks of the workshop. Each session culminates in a performance that is attended by the general public.

Join Still Point Theatre Collective and the women of Sisters Rising for a one of a kind experience in which the actors have lived first-hand the stories they share. Those who witness the performance can come away changed by a sense of empathy, connection and a growing consciousness of the issues facing incarcerated women. Sisters Rising will have only 3 performances: Friday, March 9 at 7:30pm and Saturday, March 10 at 3:00pm and 7:30pm. There is a suggested donation of $10.
