On August 28, 2010, The Chicago End-of-Life Care Coalition will proudly celebrate it’s Tenth Anniversary with a benefit at The Greenhouse Theater in Chicago.A social hour with appetizers, drinks and a raffle for great prizes will precede the performance of “Deep Listening.” This 75 minute play examines the subjects of death, dying, and end of life care, with uplifting stories, hope, and the notion that "death makes the gleam on life, the worth of it." Lisa Wagner, founder of Chicago’s Still Point Theater ( http:// www.stillpointtheatrecollective.org/index.html) and the show's sole performer, lived at a homeless shelter for people with HIV/AIDS for two years. Inspired by this experience, Wagner commissioned playwright Teresa Weed to create Deep Listening. In Weed's interviews with healthcare providers, she was informed that "As a culture, we are dying very badly." The result of this collaboration of artists and those in the field Has developed into, a vivid, moving play with music. Deep Listening engages the audience with familiar stories, gentle humor and simple songs, reinforcing palliative education while candidly exploring the reality of what it is like to "look death in the face" on a daily basis. Bring your family, friends and co-workers—they’ll see what it is we do and why we do it with so much passion. Order your tickets now!
